Punta Arenas, Chile

Check-in: 3 PM

Check-in to your included pre-expedition hotel in Punta Arenas, Chile and visit the Atlas Ocean Voyages desk in the lobby. Get ready for the adventure of a lifetime – but first, enjoy an exclusive cultural immersion… “Taste of Chile at Magellan’s Strait Park.”

  • Take in striking views of rugged coastlines and remote forested hills during the scenic drive to Magellan’s Strait Park.
  • Discover the reconstructed Fort Bulnes, site of the first Chilean settlement in Patagonia, founded in 1843.
  • Enjoy exclusive access to the park’s visitor center, set amid dramatic landscapes south of Punta Arenas.
  • Dine on regional specialties during a private dinner accompanied by traditional Patagonian music and dance.

Experience an unforgettable evening of Patagonian culture at Magellan’s Strait Park, a scenic and historic site located south of Punta Arenas. You’ll travel through dramatic landscapes en route to Fort Bulnes, the first Chilean settlement in Patagonia, established in 1843 by a group of 21 colonists. Though the original fort was later abandoned, a faithful reconstruction offers a vivid glimpse into the lives of early settlers who endured the region’s isolation and harsh conditions.

Continue to the park’s visitor center, where the venue opens exclusively for your group. A regional dinner awaits, beginning with a calafate sour aperitif and a warming bowl of pumpkin and ginger cream soup. For your main course, choose between traditional assert. Your meat is complemented by wine, bat, juice, mineral water, tea, or coffee. As you dine, a spirited to folkloric performance unfolds around you, with traditional songs and dances from the southern tip of the continent. This cultural immersion blends history, landscape, and local traditions into a singular experience- an ideal way to connect with the spirit of Patagonia.

TRANSFER FROM HOTEL TO AIRPORT (PUQ)

Get up early, grab a bite to eat, check-out from your Punta Arenas hotel, and take a transfer with other guests to the Punta Arenas (PUQ) airport for your charter flight to King George Island (TNM) in Antarctica.

CHARTER FLIGHT FROM PUNTA ARENAS (PUQ) TO KING GEORGE ISLAND (TNM)

Charter flight departure times vary. Flight time is approximately 2 hours.

ABOUT KING GEORGE ISLAND

King George Island has come to be known as the unofficial capital of Antarctica with its various research stations located on the island. As a haven for an incredible amount of wildlife, including chinstrap and Gentoo penguins, and elephant, leopard and Weddell seals, it’s a prime locale for scientific research. If your expedition begins or ends here, then your charter flight lands in or departs from Eduardo Frei Montalva Station, the Chilean air base for Antarctica expeditions with flight options over the Drake Passage. Lying within the Fildes Peninsula, where Chile laid claim to Antarctic territory, the base is an important research station. Made up of over 40 buildings that include a school, bank, hospital and post office, it resembles more a small village than a base.

Exploring the Antarctic Peninsula – Captain’s Choice

Nicknamed The White Continent for its vast expanse of icebergs, snow and glaciers, Antarctica is often the final frontier for experienced explorers to conquer. As you navigate Antarctic waters, you may set foot on sites like Beak Island, Brown Bluff, Cierva Cove, Hidden Bay and many more. Each landing throughout the continent offers its own unique landscape, from expansive tundra to rugged mountain peaks, all beckoning you to follow the paths that few explorers have trekked before.

CAPTAIN’S CHOICE — Your Captain will expertly navigate ice floes, icebergs and changing sea and weather conditions to ensure you experience the most from your expedition. Each day is a new adventure filled with a spontaneous sense of exploration as your Captain works with our expedition team to determine possible shore landings and Zodiac safaris. All itinerary routes serve as examples and are subject to change based on current conditions, prioritizing the safety and optimal expedition experience for all guests.
